Landscape Changes and Immigrants

The landscape in the Botany area has changed dramatically. From the once country-like atmosphere, to the now bustling area, Botany has truly kept up with the growing demands for housing, leisure and recreation activities and so on and so forth. As well as Maori and European citizens, Botany is now home to many immigrants from all around the world and is now considered to be a "melting pot." Botany is now home to many buildings  such as countless residential houses, commercial buildings and sport centers. Huge amounts of forestry was cut down for the pine industry in the mid to late 1900's.

Technological Influences

People that live in Botany are live a life influenced by technological gadgets, having flat screen televisions, cellphones, laptops and computers and portable devices such as iPods and portable DVD players. These gadgets at times, have made the leisure life of citizens in the Botany area technologically based and orientated. In schools laptops, computers and portable devices have made learning easier and huge adaptations are made to learn in this way. Adults, both men and women, living in the Botany area now usually work in commercial buildings such as offices and schools and the agricultural industry in Botany has died down due to the fact that there are no farms. Life is now easier with dishwashers, tumble driers, washing machines, refrigerators and freezers in our homes to make housework a lighter load.

Leisure

When people are not orientating their lives around technology, the local ice-rink (Paradice Ice Rink), bowling alley (Xtreme), movie theater complex (Hoyts) and shopping mall (Botany Town Shopping Center) are all popular locations to socialise with friends and family. A visit to the local beach whether it be Howick Beach or Cockle Bay, is also a favoured option for leisure. Libraries, parks and playgrounds are all utilised to optimum usage.
